-Pharmacotherapy
-Botulinum toxin
Indicated for certain cases of intense sweating in the hands or armpits. The administration of this drug produces a selective blockage in the action of acetylcholine on the eccrine glands, reducing sweat production. Several treatments are needed.
The non-surgical solution to temporarily eliminate excess sweat gland activity that significantly reduces sweat in the treated area, such as the armpits.
The treatment consists of the administration of small doses of botulinum toxin through microinjections with very fine needles, after doing a test to delimit the sweating area. With the application of 1 or 2 ampoules of botulinum toxin, depending on the need, the patient will be able to control excessive sweating in the hands and armpits.
What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is an increase in sweating in certain areas of the body, the result of an increase in the secretion of sweat glands.
This increase in sweating is usually due to hyperactivity of these glands due to nervous hyperstimulation, motivated by situations that involve emotional tension or stress, by the action of pharmacological substances or for thermal reasons.
Despite the control of body temperature by the hypothalamus that occurs in normal situations, in hyperhidrosis, the sweat glands of the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, armpits and the craniofacial region are especially sensitive to stimuli. emotional or thermal, producing more intense sweating to regulate temperature and counteract the rise in temperature.
Hyperhidrosis can cause work and social disability; it affects about 1% of the population, in which almost half of the cases are hereditary.
What are the symptoms of hyperhidrosis? Sweating and body odor
Hyperhidrosis can cause disability at work and in the social sphere, since sweat can soak clothing, work utensils, and even drip and wet the floor.
In addition to these discomforts, other complications occur such as:
Maceration.
Bad odor or bromhidrosis.
On the soles of the feet, skin superinfection by bacteria (pitched keratolysis).
In the palms of the hands, it favors the development of dyshidrosis and contact dermatitis, in addition to causing cold and cyanotic hands.
The most common symptoms of hyperhidrosis are:
Excessive sweating.
Bad smell.
Superinfection of the skin.
What are the causes of hyperhidrosis ? Sweating and body odor
The causes of hyperhidrosis tend to be mainly thermal and emotional stimuli, which trigger the cholinergic response (sympathetic nervous system) of the sweat glands, thus causing excess sweating.
The factors that cause stress in a person can be speaking in public, fear of being observed, fear of being in the company of other people, fear of various situations and even blushing itself.
It can also be caused by some pharmacological treatments.
